About Us

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) are proud to manage grant programs for the Retail Program Standards, Manufactured Food, and state cooperative grants in Support of the National Grade “A” Milk Safety and National Shellfish Sanitation programs.

Applicants to these programs can expect a simple application process, up-front funding when required by the project, and simple reporting requirements.

Retail Program Standards Grant Program

The Retail Program Standards Grant Program is a partnership between FDA and AFDO. The program provides funds for the completion of projects and training to enhance conformance with the Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards (Retail Program Standards).

Each year, grant funding is open to state, local, territorial, and tribal regulatory retail food programs that have enrolled in the Retail Program Standards.

Manufactured Food Training Grant Program

The FDA and AFDO are proud to administer the Manufactured Food Training Grant Program. The program provides funds to support the training needs of manufactured food programs at the State, local, tribal and territorial levels.

Preventive Controls Training Grants are available to regulatory agencies that oversee the safety of manufactured food (human and/or animal food), and who have one or more employees who must complete FSPCA for Human Food or FSPCA for Animal Food. Alternatively, Pre-Authorized Training is an invitation-only funding model available to State, local, tribal, or territorial regulatory agencies.

Milk & Shellfish Grant Program

The FDA in collaboration with the National Conference on Interstate Milk Shipments (NCIMS), the Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference (ISSC), and AFDO, have partnered to provide State Cooperative Program Grants for the Grade “A” Milk Safety and National Shellfish Sanitation Programs.

Grant funding is available to state or territorial (Puerto Rico) agencies that have the regulatory authority to implement the Grade “A” Milk Safety Program and/or the National Shellfish Sanitation Program.
